重陽節傳說與由來
九月九日，瘟魔又要來，你可以回去除害。」並且給了他茱萸葉子一包，菊花酒一瓶，讓他家鄉父老登高避禍。於是他便離開回到家鄉，九月九那天，他領著妻子兒女、鄉親父老登上了附近的一座山。把茱萸葉分給大家樣隨身帶上，瘟魔則不敢近身。而把菊花酒倒出來，每人喝了一口，避免染瘟疫。他和瘟魔搏鬥，最後殺死了瘟魔。
「九九」諧音「久久」，代表老人高壽，內政部為了弘揚「敬老崇孝」的傳統，特別訂定以重陽節為「敬老節」，此後每年的這一天，各地都展開敬老活動，喚醒民眾重視老人、尊敬老人以這一天為「敬老節」真是再恰當不過了
